Water Tanks

  • + How much is a particular rainwater tank?

We have over 4000 different tanks to choose from!
Tanks can start for as little as $469 but since the types, colours and sizes vary enormously, its best to contact us so that we can help you find the tank that suits best and provide you with a written quote.
Popular tanks include slimline poly tanks, which start from only $825 (2000L All Weather Poly Slimline tank).
Our steel tanks are made to measure in slimline, square, Modline and round tank varieties. Steel slimline tanks cost around twice that of most poly slimline tanks, but they can be made to much greater capacities up to 7500L and the look of corrugated steel is often worth the extra. We also have EcoSac bladder tanks which start at $1995 (2200L).
Steel round tanks of up to around 30,000L are available and can have CFA outlets fitted, if needed.
Much larger above ground and underground tanks are also available.

Please contact us to obtain a price on any tank.

  • + What sort of base do I need for my tank to sit on?

Most domestic tanks sit on reinforced concrete pavers or a reinforced concrete slab.
Whilst some manufacturers allow other types of base (e.g. compacted sand) to be used, PJT Green Plumbing strongly recommends the use of concrete for peace of mind, particularly for steel tanks and all slimline tanks.

  • + Do I need a green plumber to connect my tank to the toilets or laundry?

Yes. Connections to toilets or laundries must be installed by a licensed plumber by law.
A Plumbing Industry Commission Certificate of Compliance from the plumber is required to apply for rebates and for jobs exceeding $750.

  • + How do I work out what size rainwater tank I’ll need for my garden and/or toilets and laundry?

The size of the garden and use of facilities plays a part in deciding, and tank size can be restricted by the space in which you can fit a tank – plus the size of the roof space from where the water is being collected.
    Usually the bigger, the better.
Remember that each square meter of roof space provides one litre of water for every 1mm of rainfall.
Check out our Sizelator or contact us to have one of our green plumbers visit your home to determine what’s best for you.

  • + What is the difference between plastic tanks and steel tanks?

Plastic (poly) tanks and steel tanks are very similar in that they all hold water!
Some people simply have a preference for one or the other usually due to price, or aesthetic appeal. Poly tanks are cheaper than steel tanks, but steel tanks are made-to-measure and so they have a far greater flexibility in size configurations.

  • + I’m interested in getting rainwater tanks installed – where do I start?

Firstly, consider what you’d like to use the water for (e.g. garden use, connections to toilets, laundry, whole of house etc) and view our products or simply contact us to have one of our customer consultant explain the benefits.

  • + What’s the difference between flat panels and evacuated tubes?

Evacuated tube technology has significantly greater efficiency compared to flat panels, particularly during cloudy winter months when it is most needed.

Evacuated tubes passively follow the sun to absorb more thermal energy for longer periods of daylight hours which is highly important in Melbourne.

Evacuated tubes are freeze and hail resistant.

Unlike flat panels, evacuated tubes can be replaced individually if broken and the system continues to work if one or a series of tubes are broken.
